HYPNOSIS INFORMATION

Hess Hypnosis Hypnosis Facts - Milwaukee Waukesha Wisconsin Hypnotist

Am I hypnotizable?
The answer is "Yes". Everyone is hypnotizable, and most people go into a trance multiple times a day. The only difference with hypnosis is that we are leading you into that state purposefully, and utilizing it to help you achieve your goals. Most of the time, when someone believes they cannot be hypnotized, that belief comes from a lack of knowledge of what hypnosis IS, or a fear of loss of control. Some people go into a trance more easily than others, and some can do it more quickly than others. Some people have a 'gift' for hypnosis, and some need a little time to learn the skill.

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. It is a normal, natural and pleasant state of the mind that we have all experienced at various times. At night when we fall asleep we all pass through a point when entering sleep called the Hypnoidal Point a state of awareness, when one is half awake and half asleep, relaxed and comfortable, safe and secure, aware yet not bothered. We often experience this trance like state in our everyday lives, for example; becoming totally involved reading an absorbing book, watching a movie or a television program, daydreaming, driving along a familiar route and realizing you do not remember part of the journey, hypnosis is a relaxed state of mind. It is used by people from all walks of life to effectively change or improve many aspects of their lives.

Will I lose control in hypnosis?
No. In fact, hypnosis is a state of heightened awareness and self-control. The hypnotist does not take control over you. Think of the hypnotist as a guide that helps you relax and find your subconscious mind.

What if I get stuck in hypnosis?
Everyone goes in and out of hypnosis every day. It is a naturally occurring state  and if your hypnotherapist left in the middle of a session you would wake up or simply drift to sleep and wake up when you felt rested.

Will I lose consciousness or fall asleep? No. One of the major misconceptions is that the hypnotized person will lose conscious awareness. In hypnosis, the client is alert and aware of everything at all times, and hears everything the hypnotist says. While consciousness is entirely suspended in sleep, it is definitely present in hypnosis - a great difference.

Can I be made to do something against my will?
No. Since the ability to be hypnotized is a subjective experience, nothing could be further from the truth. Although the hypnotist guides and develops the hypnotic state, the ability to be hypnotized rests within the client, and the client is always in control.

Is Hypnosis medically approved?
Yes it is. The American Medical Association (AMA) as well as the American Psychiatric Association (APA) have approved Hypnotherapy for use by professionally responsible and trained hypnotists since 1958. Hypnosis is a safe and effective way of treating the root causes of stress, depression, overeating, smoking, anxiety, fears, insomnia and much more.

How does hypnosis work?
Hypnosis allows people to explore thoughts or feelings that may have hidden from their conscious minds. The relaxed hypnotic state allows a person to be more open to discussion and suggestion. Hypnosis is designed to enhance motivation, increase feelings of self-control, improve self-esteem, encourage self-compassion, and explore ambivalence about change. Hypnosis is also suspected to increase oxytocin (a hormone that makes you feel good and calm). Evidence shows that increased amounts of oxytocin may decrease blood pressure and lower the effects of stress. This raises levels of a substance called CCK, which, among other things, helps to control appetite.

What does Hypnosis feel like?
Everyone has experienced hypnosis at one time or another. You probably remember a time driving on the highway and just lost track of time. We call this highway hypnosis. So when you are in a hypnosis experience, you are extremely comfortable and relaxed but fully aware of what is going on. And in this relaxed state, you are open to suggestions about modifications of your habits or behaviors. Hypnosis is perfectly safe. No one can get you to do anything against your will in hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is a pleasant and enjoyable way to tap into and unlock the potential of your sub-conscious mind.
